BLEACHED

I have always been intrigued by the evidence of the passing of time and its effect on people and objects. Lying out in a field, this set of antlers was an accidental discovery by a friend and was already exhibiting the evidence of nature at work. Brought home and hung on a weathered barn wall, the late afternoon sun shining on the antlers created a spectacular pattern of shadows. Reminiscent of a hunter’s trophy, the antlers already bore evidence of nature’s reclamation process as they had begun to be gnawed at by rodents for the calcium they contain. The checked and flaking paint on the barn together with the antlers were showing nature’s work as they both continued to be “Bleached” by the sun. The spectacular shadow of the antlers was very instrumental in the composition of the piece.
