FIRESTARTERS
Egg Tempera
25 x 35 inches
Private Collection

When the artist was a young boy his family would take many camping trips throughout the year. This is when the artist's habit of collecting things from nature began and pine cones were one of the first things collected. Large paper bags would eventually be filled and the aroma of the cones would fill the car on the ride home. In the evening the cones were used as “Firestarters” for the campfire which would illuminate the campsite and around which the family would gather every night to make popcorn or roast potatoes. Here they adorn a mantel and remind the artist of these early family camping trips which he cherished.
