SPLIT BAMBOO
Egg Tempera
15 x 21 inches

Two of the artist’s good friends were fly fisherman. They would study the hatches of insects emerging from the water and the larvae under the rocks and tie amazingly life-like imitations. Whenever they would get together, inevitably the conversation would turn to split bamboo rods, the Holy Grail of fly fishing lore. The artist has a large patch of bamboo growing in his yard, but this rake is the only “Split Bamboo” that he owns.
