“While growing up, everytime we had a stiff wind coming out of the northwest, someone would comment, “Here comes the Alberta Clipper”, and this simple windsock was always sure to signal its arrival. Another piece of Americana disappearing from the American scene, not only did this simple homemade backyard meteorogical instrument indicate the wind direction but in the weathered cloth of the windsock itself I saw the tattered sails of a clipper ship out on the water where the “Alberta Clipper” would fill the sails and fray the cloth just as it had done to this windsock.“
