DRY SPELL
Egg Tempera
Collection of the artist

Over the years, the sprinkling can has been one of the artist’s favorite subjects. Few items are as functional while retaining such an aesthetic appeal. Beginning with the watercolor “Rainmaker” the artist then went on to paint four temperas, “The Gardener”, “Light Sprinkle”, “Watermark” and “Soaking Season” before another drybrush “Thirst Quencher” and finally culminating with the tempera “Dry Spell”. The summer had been hot with very little rain and the autumn leaves fell early. Here a remaining oak leaf reminded the artist of how dry the summer had been and how the watering can had been used heavy duty as it served as a lifesaver for the garden and the yard plants during the “Dry Spell”.
