OLD SALT
2009
Drybrush Watercolor
25 x 36 inches

In this memorable portrait we see the artist revisit the subject of his father whom he had painted twenty years earlier in the portrait “Family Man”. Having just completed a six month odyssey on the tempera “The Navigator”, the artist was still having nautical thoughts. Having just delivered four paintings to a gallery on Nantucket and surviving the ferry ride without having a seasickness episode, the artist began to think about his father’s experiences in the Navy and how he had indeed become an “Old Salt”. On special occasions, he proudly wears the sterling silver “Jawbreaker” Navy ring that his son unearthed on one of his amateur archaeological digs and gave to him.
