The area around where the artist grew up has undergone enormous change through unprecedented development. A number of his paintings depict subjects which seem destined to disappear. This group of houses was at the far eastern end of Race Street coming out of the town of Catasauqua. Abandoned as part of the airport expansion and scheduled for demolition, the artist painted them during the "Calm Before The Storm".
