SUNDIAL
2011
Watercolor
19 x 28 inches

Having been born on Henry David Thoreau's birthday, I have always been attacted to houses that I imagined him possibly living in. This was one such tiny house being bathed in a late afternoon light, the chimney casting a long shadow just as the pointer on a "Sundial". Perhaps Thoreau kept track of time in this way or, more likely, time didn't matter to him at all but I am sure he would have appreciated the time of day when the sunlight and shadow combine to elevate the commonplace to a unique memorable moment.
